How to Clone a Shipment

Written by Shipwell Help

Overview

The Clone feature in Shipwell lets you quickly create a new shipment or quote based on an existing one. All shipment details — stops, line items, mode, equipment, and references — are carried over, saving you time when you have repeat or similar lanes.

How to Clone a Shipment

  1. Open the shipment you want to clone from your Shipments Dashboard.

  2. Go to the Actions tab on the shipment detail page.

  3. Choose one of the two clone options:

    • Clone As A Shipment — Creates a new shipment in Draft/Quoting status with all the same stop, line item, and freight details pre-filled.

    • Clone As A Quote — Creates a new quote (useful if you want to re-rate the lane before committing to a new shipment).

  4. You will be taken to the new shipment or quote creation form, pre-populated with the original shipment's details.

  5. Review and update any fields as needed (e.g., pickup date, references), then Save.

What Gets Copied

  • Stops (origin, destination, and any intermediate stops) — stop statuses are reset

  • Line items (purchase order references are cleared for a clean start)

  • Mode and equipment type

  • Freight details

What Does NOT Get Copied

  • Carrier assignment (the clone starts without a carrier)

  • Documents (BOL, POD, etc.)

  • Notes and messages

  • Tender history

Tips

Cloning is ideal for repeat lanes where the origin, destination, and freight type stay the same. Update the planned pickup date after cloning to reflect the new shipment's timeline.
