One common way that settlement documents are received is via a PDF rendition or invoice packet. These rendition or invoice packets are a group of documents that include an invoice and related settlement documents (e.g. POD, BOL, lumper receipt). These rendition or invoice packets can be received by Shipwell and we will process these leveraging AI through a document classifier followed by an information extraction model. These Rendition / Invoice Packets can be sent via Shipwell’s web interface, mobile application, or via API.

Once a Rendition / Invoice Packet has been received then the documents are classified according to the type of documents present. The first invoice in the rendition packet is run through our uploaded invoice information extraction and then the entire packet is run through First Pass Match, and the results displayed within Shipwell in under 30 seconds.

The ‘In-App Uploaded Rendition Packet’ capability must be turned on for customers and the carriers they wish to use it.

In-App Uploaded Rendition Packet Walkthrough

Either the customer or the carrier can upload a single-shipment ‘Rendition / Invoice Packet’ (PDF) on a shipment. Rendition packets having multiple documents related to an invoice such as a POD, BOL, lumper receipt, etc.

Uploading a rendition packet is done by going to the shipment documents in the web-app or mobile and uploading an ‘Rendition / Invoice Packet'. Demonstrated below is leveraging the web application to do this.

Once this occurs, and ‘In-App Uploaded Rendition Packet’ functionality has been activated, then the rendition packet will be processed. The resulting documents are classified and the information extracted from the invoice and then is run through First Pass Match. The resulting settlement information is displayed both in the ‘Invoices Received’ card and the ‘Settlement Dashboard’ for invoice recipients. This information will also be displayed within the ‘Invoices Sent’ card for the carrier. Note the ‘Rendition Invoice / Packet’ itself will also be saved and maintained on the shipment documents in its entirety.

The resulting invoice would be processed according to the First Pass Match exception review and payment process.

Clicking on the documents icon within ‘Settlement Dashboard’ or the ‘Invoices Sent’ / ‘Invoices Received’ cards will display the documents that were classified. Click on each document to view them.

There is the ability to reclassify the documents if there is a belief that they are incorrect by simply clicking pencil icon to edit and reclassifying the document type.

Our belief is the ‘In-app uploaded rendition packet’ will be a feature that helps our customers and their carriers save time in a reliable manner. Contact your Customer Service Manager if you are interested in having this functionality activated.

Feature Awareness:

  • Uploaded rendition packets leverage artificial intelligence to classify invoices. Shipwell believes that it does so with high accuracy, but like any technology it is not perfect and there is the possibility of mistakes.
