Unlock the potential to meticulously define handling units, addresses, or location constraints for specific carriers with our latest feature update. This enhancement allows for superior shipment rating, routing, and cost efficiency, ensuring your shipments align perfectly with carrier capabilities.

Setting Up Carrier Exclusion Rules:

To access these new options, head to the "Carriers" section under "Manage." Select a carrier of your choice to implement an exclusion rule. Once selected, proceed to the "Rules" tab:

Within this segment, you can tailor exclusion rules for various scenarios, enhancing control over your shipment operations:

  • Quantity Restrictions: Define a cap on the number of handling units assigned to a carrier. If a shipment or quote exceeds this limit, the system automatically removes the carrier from the rating and dispatch processes. For instance, you might prevent Estes Express from handling shipments with over seven units.

  • Dimensional Limits: Establish limits on linear dimensions (e.g., feet) for carriers. Exceeding these measurements will automatically exclude a carrier, helping to mitigate service inconsistencies. For example, Dayton Freight could be excluded for shipments over 15 linear feet.

  • Location-based Exclusions: Set exclusions based on specific pickup or delivery locations, whether inbound, outbound, or elsewhere. Matching shipments will automatically bypass the excluded carrier for both rating and dispatch.

  • Geographical Restrictions: Specify exclusions based on states, provinces, or postal codes. Shipments matching these criteria will not consider the carrier in question for rating or dispatch, such as excluding Estes Express for shipments to or from Texas.

Flexible Handling of Exceptions:

Understanding the dynamic nature of shipping, our system offers several workarounds for situations where an excluded carrier might still be needed:

  • Rate with Exclusions: Obtain rate estimates from excluded carriers, with a clear indication of the relevant exclusion rule for informed decision-making.

  • Dispatch with Exclusions: Enable the dispatch of shipments with a carrier that has been excluded, again providing full visibility of the exclusion rule.

  • Tender Bypass: Allows certain shipments to override exclusion rules, facilitating manual intervention when necessary.

Benefits at a Glance:

  • Enhanced Carrier Matching: Automatically pair your shipments with the most appropriate carriers, taking into account size, restrictions, and service areas.

  • Cost Efficiency: Prevent unnecessary surcharges and service limitations by precluding carriers that do not meet specific shipment criteria.

  • Streamlined Process: Improve the efficiency of your shipping process, ensuring that shipments are always directed to the most suitable carriers.

Getting Started:

These new functionalities are integrated within the carrier profiles in your existing setup. Simply navigate to "Manage > Carriers > Rules" to begin optimizing your shipping operations with these advanced management tools.
