Rail Shipment Mode

A new shipment mode, Rail, has been added to allow users to track railcar location updates. By assigning Rail as the shipment mode a Reference field called Railcar # is now available on the shipment. After entering a valid Railcar # and saving the shipment, the railcar tracking will be initiated automatically. Railcar equipment types have also been added to the equipment list.

  • Auto-Rack Bi-Level

  • Auto-Rack Tri-Level

  • Auto-Max

  • Boxcar

  • Bulkhead Flatcar

  • Centerbeam Flatcar

  • Chain Tie-Down Flatcar

  • Coal Car

  • Coil Steel Railcar

  • Container

  • Covered Coil Railcar

  • Covered Hopper

  • Gondola

  • Open Top Hopper

  • Pipe Flatcar

  • Refrigerated Boxcar

  • Temp. Controlled Trailer

  • Trailer

Railcar tracking updates will appear on the shipment tracking tab as timeline events. Each location update will include the date / time, location name (based on the Standard Point Location Code, SPLC), the railcar status, and the latest ETA to the final destination. In addition, the shipment map will show all the location updates connected together, with a train icon showing the latest location update. The Railcar Status field will also be updated within the Shipment References.

The Railcar Number and Railcar Status field have also been added as available columns to the shipment dashboard.

Requirements to turn on:

  • Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager to get started!

  • This feature may incur a increase to your subscription fee based on terms and conditions in your current MSA.

  • Railcar Tracking requires a feature flag to be enabled, and the customer must approve a Letter Of Authorization with the tracking service to release their railcar data to Shipwell.
