Automated Carrier Status Updates Based on SaferWatch Data

The Shipwell Carrier Status can now be automatically updated based on daily carrier data updates from the SaferWatch integration.

Our integration works with both safer watch subscription levels, Guardian and Assure. The Guardian level of SaferWatch provides FMCSA Auto Liability data. Assure level, on the other hand, is the higher tier and includes FMCSA insurance and COI data (Auto and Cargo, Workers Comp, and GL).

This daily carrier information includes carriers:

  • SaferWatch Certification Status

  • Operating Authority Status

  • Safety Rating Status

  • Safety Rating Date

  • Insurance Status

  • Insurance Rating

  • Cargo Insurance Expiration

  • Cargo Insurance Amount

This SaferWatch carrier data can currently be viewed in the Carrier Details screen. After the daily carrier update occurs, a process will be run that will set the Shipwell Carrier Status based on customer configured rules stored in the system.

For example, if the carrier’s Operating Authority Status changes to Inactive based on the SaferWatch data import, the Shipwell Carrier Status can automatically be changed to Inactive. The user can set up their company rules by accessing the Manage -> Company -> Company Defaults -> Carrier Compliance screen. This screen allows the user to assign one of the 3 Shipwell carrier statuses (Active, Inactive, or Do Not Use) based on the carrier data values provided by SaferWatch.

To create the rules, the user will select the desired Shipwell Carrier Status in the right column using the drop list to associate the Shipwell Status to the incoming data values. If the user wants to configure a rule for a particular field, such as SaferWatch Certification Status, they can choose to enable or leave blank any of the fields.

For example:

  • Setting Moderate and Unacceptable to Inactive, and leaving Acceptable blank will configure the system to only Inactivate carriers but never automatically have the system Re-Activate them.

  • To access additional SaferWatch configuration settings the user can click the Advanced Setting option in the SaferWatch card. This will expand the card and allow configuration of all the SaferWatch data elements.

If the user does not want the automated process to configure the Shipwell Carrier Status based on an incoming data field, they can leave all of the Shipwell Carrier Status values blank in the right column. If all values are left unassigned for an incoming data field, the automated process will not make any carrier status changes based on the incoming data.

The automated carrier status process will run on a nightly basis once the daily SaferWatch import process is completed. The process will also run automatically if configuration changes are made, once the changes are saved and the user exits the configuration screen. Users can subscribe to receive an email notification which provides visibility to all carrier status changes made by the automated process.

The notification can be enabled via the Profile, Notifications settings screen shown below.

Feature Flag

The Automated Carrier Status Process is enabled with a feature flag, Automatic Carrier Policy Enabled. Turning on the feature will allow access to the Manage -> Company -> Company Defaults -> Carrier Compliance screen, and will initiate the nightly automated process.
