Flat Percentage Off Discounts in Shopflo

Percentage off discounts are a promotional tool used to drive sales, clear inventory, and increase customer engagement by offering a fixed percentage reduction on the retail price of products or services. For example, "10% off" means the customer pays 90% of the listed price.

These discounts can be strategically applied during sales events, seasonal promotions, or as part of customer loyalty programs.

Application Types

Automatic Discounts:
These apply at checkout without the customer needing to input anything. Ideal for frictionless promotions like site-wide sales or targeted offers during events (e.g., “Black Friday 15% Off Everything”).

Manual Discounts:
Require the customer to enter a discount code at checkout. Useful for targeted marketing, loyalty campaigns, or influencer promotions where you want to track redemption.

Scope of Discount

  1. Entire Cart:
The percentage is applied across all items in the cart. This is the most straightforward setup and is often used for store-wide sales.

  2. Specific Products or Collections:
Discounts can be limited to certain SKUs, product types, or collections (e.g., “10% off Product X” or “15% off the winter collection”). This gives you control over margin and inventory.

💬 Note: While percentage discounts scale with the order size, you can impose a cap to manage exposure. For instance, a discount of “10% off, up to ₹100” ensures that the benefit does not exceed ₹100 regardless of the cart total.

Discount Conditions

You can set cart conditions to control when a flat percentage-off discount becomes active—or choose to apply it universally without any conditions. Here are the main options:

  • No Conditions: The discount applies regardless of cart value or contents. This is common for blanket promotions like “10% off everything” or simple loyalty rewards.

  • Minimum Purchase Amount: The discount activates when the cart total reaches a set amount (e.g., “10% off on orders over ₹500”).

  • Minimum Item Quantity: The discount kicks in when the customer adds a specified number of items to their cart (e.g., “10% off when you add 3 items to the cart”).

These conditions can be scoped more precisely:

  • Entire Cart: The rule evaluates the full cart against the condition.

  • Specific Products in Cart: Only triggers if selected products meet the threshold

  • Products from a Specific Collection: Applies when items from a defined collection hit the value or quantity minimum

This level of control lets you shape purchase behavior—whether you're trying to clear inventory, drive average order value, or incentivize product discovery.

Customer Eligibility

Flat discounts can be restricted based on customer characteristics, such as:

  • All customers

  • First-time buyers only

  • Repeated customers

  • Specific customer or segments

Usage Limits: How Often Can the Discount Be Used?

  • Total Usage Limit: Define the maximum number of times this discount can be redeemed across all customers. For example, you might allow the first 1,000 uses before the offer is automatically disabled.

  • Per Customer Limit: Set how many times an individual customer can use the discount—typically once or twice. This is especially useful for welcome offers, loyalty incentives, or personalized codes.

Discount Combinations:

  • Stackable: Can be stacked with all offers or selected offers.

  • Exclusive: Cannot be combined with any other offer

How to Setup a Flat Percentage Off Discount

Setup Guide

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up a flat 10% discount on Shopflo. By the end, you'll have a fully configured discount to help boost your sales.

Step 1: Open your dashboard and select Discounts.

Step 2: Click Create Discount.

Step 3: Select Create Single Discount.

Step 4: Name your discount and choose whether it will be manual or automatic. For this example, select a manual discount.

Step 5: Define the discount's function. Apply it to all cart items, add discounted items to the cart, or create a bundle.

Step 6: Specify what the discount applies to. Options include all cart items, specific products, or products from specific collections.

Step 7: Choose the discount type. For a 10% discount, select Percentage Off.

💡 Add a cap if needed to limit the discount's exposure. For instance, a “10% off, up to ₹100” cap ensures the discount doesn't exceed ₹100, regardless of the cart total.

Step 8: Set cart conditions. These can include a minimum purchase amount, a minimum number of items, or specific products or collections.

For this example we will proceed without any conditions.

Step 9: Define customer eligibility. Options include All customers, First-time buyers, Repeat customers, Specific customers, or customer segments.

For this example we are creating a discount for First-time customers.

Step 10: Set usage limits to control how often the discount can be used. Limit the total number of uses or the number of uses per customer. Next, configure combination rules to decide if this discount can be combined with other active discounts.

Step 11: Preview the discount to ensure everything is set up correctly.

That's it! You've successfully created a flat 10% discount on Shopflo.

Summary

This kind of discount is popular because it’s easy to understand and configure—but its full potential comes out when you apply it with thoughtful rules. If you're designing a promotion system or planning a sale, grounding your discount logic in customer behavior and margin realities is key.
