Disable rewards on a Payment method

Learn how to disable reward redemption on a specific payment method in Shopflo using Automations — commonly used to prevent reward stacking on COD orders.

Written by Swapnil Sangal

Shopflo lets you disable reward redemption based on the payment method a customer selects at checkout. This is set up through Automations and gives you control over which payment methods are excluded from your rewards program.

To get started, navigate to Automations in the Shopflo dashboard, click New Automation, and select Start Blank. Then follow the steps below.

When to Use This

The most common use case is Cash on Delivery (COD). COD orders already carry a higher operational cost — handling fees, higher RTO risk, and delayed cash realisation. When a customer also redeems loyalty rewards on a COD order, the brand absorbs two costs simultaneously: the reward value and the COD overhead.

Other scenarios where this applies:

Bank or wallet cashback offers — If a payment partner (bank EMI, UPI cashback, wallet offer) is already providing an incentive, stacking loyalty rewards on top creates redundant cost with no additional strategic benefit.

Buy Now Pay Later — BNPL transactions already involve a financing cost borne by the merchant. Adding rewards redemption further compresses the effective margin on these orders.

How to Disable Rewards on a Payment Method

Step 1: Add a descriptive title for this automation — something that makes it easy to identify later. For example: Disable rewards on COD.

Step 2: Under the Action dropdown, select Block Payment. This is the action Shopflo will execute when the automation conditions are met.

Step 3: Select the Payment Method you want to target. You can search for the method by name. In this example, we select Cash on Delivery.

Step 4: Now set the condition that triggers this automation. Under Customer Action, select Redeem Rewards. This tells Shopflo to block COD whenever a customer attempts to redeem rewards at checkout.

Step 5: Review any additional conditions you want to apply, then click Save. Going forward, any customer who tries to redeem rewards will not be able to select Cash on Delivery as their payment method — pushing them towards a prepaid option instead.
