How to disable reward for a specific discount?

Learn how to disable reward redemption for a specific discount on Shopflo using Automations — ideal for influencer codes, welcome discounts, and sale coupons where rewards would compress margins further.

Written by Swapnil Sangal

Shopflo lets you disable reward redemption selectively — so customers cannot use their loyalty points or cashback on orders where a specific discount is already applied. This is configured through Automations, not the discount itself, giving you precise control over which coupons are excluded from your rewards program.

When to Use This

Disabling rewards on a specific discount makes sense when the discount is already serving as the incentive — and stacking rewards on top would cut into margins twice. Common scenarios include:

Influencer or affiliate codes — You're already paying the influencer a commission and giving the customer a discount. Rewards on top create a third cost layer on the same order.

New customer welcome discounts — A WELCOME10 or FIRST15 code is a customer acquisition cost. Letting that customer also earn points means you're subsidising both the first purchase and the next one simultaneously.

Festive sale or clearance coupons — During Diwali sales or end-of-season events, margins are already compressed. Accruing rewards liability during these windows creates a future redemption cost that hits in slower months.

Rewards are a retention tool — best reserved for customers buying at full or near-full price. This setting keeps those two levers separate.

How to Disable Rewards for a Specific Discount

Step 1: Navigate to Automations in the Shopflo dashboard. Click the New Automation button in the top right.

Step 2: Click Start Blank to create a new automation from scratch.

Step 3: Add a descriptive title for this automation. Use something that clearly identifies both the action and the discount it applies to — for example, Disable reward for WELCOME10.

Step 4: Under the Action dropdown, select Disable reward redemption.

Step 5: Now set the condition that triggers this automation. Click on Customer Action, open the dropdown, and select Apply Discounts.

Step 6: Select the specific discount for which you want to disable reward redemption. In this example, we select WELCOME10.

Step 7: Review any additional conditions you want to apply, then click Save. The automation will now trigger every time a customer applies this discount at checkout, preventing reward redemption on that order.
