Insert Merge Field allows you to add Data elements to your Document to populate with the targeted data when your Document is generated.
The Data that is available via Insert Merge Field will be defined in the Engine's Data Source and Master Table, which is based on Simpology's LADM (Loan Application Data Model).
You are able to insert:
an individual, random (unrelated to other fields) data field; OR
a specific, targeted data field into an established Merge Block
Insert an Individual data field
When building a form, you may want to add a data field to the form without consideration for any relationships with other mapped data.
In this example, I want to add the Application ID to a Document. To do this, I must be in Edit mode on my Document, and then go to Reporting/Insert Merge Field. Note it is best to be toggled to Full Source to ensure you have all available Data Fields:
Note that I have not 'drilled down' to a specific Merge Block section. So when I click on the Insert Merge Field, I get the top, Master layer of data elements, which include Application ID.
Make sure your cursor is on the Document where you want the field to be positioned/populated
When I select the Merge Field applicationNumber, the Merge Field populates onto the Document:
Do not worry too much about the Merge Field changing the structure of your document because it is too long. The structure and formatting will return when you generate your form. eg on the following generated form:
Insert/Add a Merge Field into an established Merge Block
You are able to use Insert Merge Field to add extra fields to an established Merge Block.
To successfully Add a new data field to an established Merge Block, you must ensure you are working 'inside' the established Block.
In this example, assume I have already created a PersonApplicants Merge Block that is a repeatable section populating onto my Document all the detail I want to have for each Person Applicant. But when I originally created the Merge Block, I forgot to add Gender, which I now want to add.
The first thing you will need to do is 'drill down' to the right Merge Block on your form. To do this, find the Merge Block in your Field Navigation and click on it. This will take you to the correct section of the Document, and also 'highlight' the whole existing Merge Block. If you expand the section in Field Navigation, you can see all the Merge Fields that are currently inside your Merge Block:
Establish where you want to add your data. I have created a new field on the form called "Gender". Place your cursor where you want the data to populate:
Ensure you have Full Source toggled on.
Click on Insert Merge Field. Because you are 'inside' Person Applicants Merge Block, the data available in Insert Merge Field should be all the PersonApplicant Data elements. If it isnt the correct data, you need to use Select Master Table to 'drill down' to the correct block of data.
If you click on "Gender" it will then be inserted onto the Document, where you have your cursor:
You can Save and Test your document to review the mapping.
