A visibility source is the technical connection that transmits real-time location and transport events from your vehicles or internal systems to Transporeon. To achieve the status of Onboarded in the Visibility Control Center (VCC), you must connect at least one visibility source so the platform can receive data updates.

Cost Note: Providing visibility data through the Transporeon platform is free of charge for all carriers.

When to Connect a Visibility Source

You are required to connect a visibility source when a customer requests real-time tracking for the transports you execute. This connection ensures compliance with customer requirements and improves operational transparency.

Quick Selection Guide

Choose the option that best matches your fleet operations:

  • Own fleet with GPS/ELD: Connect Telematics/GPS provider.

  • TMS-based management: Connect your Transportation Management System via API.

  • External carrier partners: Use Carrier Visibility (partners connect their own sources).

  • Trimble users (Truckmate/TMW): Use the Trimble TMS Trust Center.

  • Existing visibility platforms: Connect a Third-party visibility provider (aggregator).

  • No fixed GPS hardware: Use the Driver Mobile App.

Data Privacy and Control

Connecting a visibility source is governed by strict data privacy principles to ensure you maintain control over your fleet information:

  • Allocation-Based Tracking: Data is only shared when a vehicle is assigned to an active transport. If there is no active allocation, no data is transmitted.

  • Time-Bound Sharing: Tracking activates at the start of a journey and terminates automatically upon completion of the transport.

  • Data Minimization: Transporeon does not collect or share sensitive non-positional data such as Hours of Service (HOS) logs, driver personal details, or engine diagnostics.

Connection Options

Option 1: Telematics / GPS

Best for carriers operating their own fleet with an established GPS provider.

  • Requirement: An active account with a supported telematics provider.

  • Onboarding Criteria: Status changes to Onboarded once the platform receives the first position update from an integrated vehicle.

Option 2: TMS via API

Best for carriers with the technical capability to send transport events directly from their own Transportation Management System.

  • Requirement: An API configuration capable of pushing "Start," "Stop," and "Position" events.

  • Onboarding Criteria: Status changes to Onboarded upon the successful receipt of the first transport event.

Option 3: Carrier Partner (Subcontractor)Visibility

Best for logistics providers who work with external partners to execute transports.

Option 4: Trimble TMS Trust Center

Best for fleets utilizing Trimble Truckmate, Innovative, or TMW Suite.

  • Requirement: An enabled Trust Center connection within your Trimble environment.

  • Onboarding Criteria: Status changes once the first connection handshake or transport event is registered.

Option 5: Third-party Aggregators

Carriers already using a secondary visibility platform can forward data to Transporeon. Reach out to support for guidance on the setup.

  • Requirement: Configuration within your provider's platform to push data to Transporeon.

  • Onboarding Criteria: Status changes upon the first successful data push from the provider.

Option 6: Driver Mobile App

Best for vehicles without fixed GPS hardware or for temporary/ad-hoc transport needs.

  • Requirement: Drivers must download and use the mobile application applicable for them during transport execution.

  • Onboarding Criteria: Status changes when a driver initiates their first trip and transmits a position update.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I have connected my telematics provider, but my status is still Not Onboarded. Why?

The status update is triggered by data flow. Even if the technical connection is established, the status will not change to Onboarded until the platform receives the first valid position or status event from a vehicle assigned to an active transport.

Can I use multiple visibility sources simultaneously?

Yes. You can use Telematics for your own fleet while utilizing the Driver App for ad-hoc partners or vehicles without fixed hardware. The platform will prioritize the source relevant to the specific transport.

What happens to my data after a transport is completed?

Tracking ceases automatically once the "Unloading Point" or "Final Destination" event is processed. No further location data is recorded for that vehicle until it is assigned to a new transport.

How do I know if my telematics provider is supported?

Transporeon supports more than 1,000 telematics providers globally. You can search for your provider in Vehicle Management > Integration settings. If your provider is not listed, you can request a new integration directly in the interface.

Is there a limit to the number of vehicles I can connect?

No. You can connect your entire fleet via telematics to ensure that any truck you assign to a Transporeon transport is automatically tracked without additional manual setup.
