The Project Settings page allows you to configure key information and metadata for your project directly in Explore. Setting this up correctly helps with organisation, location context, and coordinate system alignment.
Note: Project Settings lets you manage settings that apply globally to all users who access the same project.
Details Tab
This tab contains the essential project information.
Project Name
The name of your project. You can update this at any time to reflect the correct title.
Project Group
The category or asset group the project belongs to (for example, Railway Assets). This helps with organising projects under a common asset type or department.
Date Created
The date the project was created. This field is set during initial project creation and cannot be edited.
Address
The physical location of the project. You can either enter the address manually or select a point on the map to associate the project with a location.
Map View
A map preview showing the chosen project location. This allows you to visually confirm the correct site or area.
General Information
A free-text field where you can add additional project context such as description, scope, notes, location details, or relevant links. This information is visible to all project members.
Coordinates Tab
This tab allows you to define the coordinate system and datum for your project.
Horizontal Datum
The reference system used to define the project’s horizontal (X/Y) coordinates. Example: WGS 84 – EPSG:4978.
Set Default Horizontal Datum
Set the default horizontal datum by clicking the star icon. Once saved, it'll be applied to the project and will be visible in the coordinates bar as well.
Remove Horizontal Datum
The Remove datum option allows you to remove a horizontal datum that has been added to the project.
Pro tip: If you accidentally remove a horizontal datum, you can simply reselect it from the dropdown list above. Removing it only clears it from the project. It doesn’t delete it from the database.
Vertical Datum
The reference system used for vertical (Z) measurements. Adding a vertical datum ensures elevation data is correctly aligned.
Note: Applying a vertical datum offset will affect the coordinate readouts, but will not move the globe. The selected options will also be available in the 3D viewer coordinate bar.
Also, vertical datum offsets are not applied if the horizontal datum is ECEF. They only apply to projected systems where the Z value represents elevation.
Description Pop-out on Share Links
Horizontal and Vertical Datums
Displays the horizontal and vertical datums used in the project, along with text from General Information. This helps anyone accessing the shared link quickly understand the project’s coordinate reference setup.
Project with Long Names
SKAND shows the first two lines of your project name. Hovering over it reveals the full name in a pop-out.
Best Practices
To ensure your project is set up correctly and accessible to all team members, follow these best practices:
Use clear and consistent project names – Choose a project name that is descriptive and easy to identify, especially when managing multiple projects.
Group projects logically – Assign each project to the most relevant Project Group to maintain an organised structure across your workspace.
Confirm the correct location – Always check the map preview to ensure the address or site location is accurate before saving.
Add meaningful general information – Use the description field to capture important context such as scope, purpose, and key notes so all users share the same understanding.
Set the appropriate coordinate system – Select the correct Horizontal and Vertical Datums for your region or survey requirements to keep measurements accurate.
Keep datums up to date – Edit or remove datums if requirements change, so only relevant options are available for your project.
Review settings regularly – Revisit project settings periodically to confirm they remain correct as the project progresses.
