Now that you’ve uploaded your files and created a project in SKAND, the next step is creating a layer. Layers contain the spatial data you want to visualise in the 3D scene. In this section, you’ll learn how to create a layer from your data and prepare it for viewing, analysis, and collaboration.
How to Create a Layer
SKAND is your one-stop Spatial Data Operating System that supports multiple data types. By creating layers, you can quickly visualize and analyze your spatial data in one unified 3D environment.
For this section, we’ll use the uploaded 3D tile to create a layer. Follow the steps below.
Let's start by going back to the Layers tab.
Click New Layer to start the layer creation prompts.
Enter Training 3D Mesh as the layer name.
Note: Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
Specify a capture date for your data. For this exercise, you may leave the default date unchanged.
Select 3D Mesh as the layer type.
Note: If you wish to create different layer types, refer to this documentation.
General notes can be provided as well. For now, we're leaving it blank.
Click Next.
Click the plus (+) icon to select our earlier uploaded file.
Click on the Training folder to open the 3D tile ZIP file.
Tick Training_3D Sample 3D Tile.zip.
Hit Select to proceed.
Review the selected file, and when you’re ready, click Done to create your layer.
The layer is now visible on the Project Description page. SKAND will process the file, and once it’s ready, the status will update to Published.
After some time, the layer will be published. You’ll notice the status has changed from Processing to Published.
Optional: Access the layer options by clicking the ellipsis button (...).
Congrats on making it this far! Now, it's time to visualize your spatial data and navigate the 3D Scene.
