SKAND runs entirely in the browser, so there is nothing to install. Data streams from the cloud and is rendered by the graphics hardware on the user's machine, which means performance depends on the browser, the GPU, and the network connection more than on CPU speed or storage.
Recommended specifications
Web browser | A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or any Chromium-based web browser |
Operating system | Windows 11 on 64-bit hardware, or macOS Monterey and newer |
Graphics | Graphics hardware capable of WebGL 2. A discrete graphics card will noticeably outperform integrated graphics. |
System memory | 16 GB |
Processor | Quad-core Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 class, or Apple silicon |
Connection | A stable broadband connection served over HTTP/2 or later |
If SKAND feels slow
Most performance problems come down to browser configuration rather than hardware. Three checks resolve the majority of cases.
Confirm hardware acceleration is on – Without it, the browser renders using the CPU and frame rates drop sharply. Check Settings > System in Chrome, or Settings > System and performance in Edge, then relaunch. To confirm, open
chrome://gpuand check that WebGL and WebGL2 are listed as hardware accelerated.Check which GPU the browser is using – Laptops with two graphics cards usually default to the integrated one to save battery. On Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, find the browser, and set it to High performance. Restart the browser afterward.
Collect diagnostic information – If the first two checks do not help, users can gather details that allow the SKAND team to identify the cause.
First, open WebGL Report in the same browser used for SKAND and take a screenshot of the page. The page is long, so users may need several screenshots to capture all of it.
Next, open SKAND and attempt to load the dataset. Right-click anywhere on the page except the 3D view and select Inspect. In the panel that opens, go to the Console tab and take screenshots of any red or yellow entries.
A short screen recording of the whole process is also useful, as it captures anything the screenshots miss.
Send everything to support@skand.io and we'll take a look and get back to you within 24 hours.
It is also worth keeping graphics drivers up to date.
Users can refer to this article for the optimal settings when using lower-spec machines.
