Configure attendance settings

Attendance settings are rules that control how all employees clock in and clock out.

Navigation

Navigate to Settings > Attendance > Attendance rules.

Note: To perform this function, you must have Administrator level permission or Manager level permission with the 'Manage attendance settings' sub-permission enabled.

To utilize the "Early clock ins" feature, Breaks must be enabled and configured at Settings > Compliance > Labor laws> Breaks.

Configure Settings

Allow early clock ins

Set how early employees are allowed to clock in before their shift starts. Employees that try to clock in earlier than the set threshold will not be allowed.

Allow unscheduled shifts

Allow employees to clock in for a shift that is not scheduled (i.e. when an employee is required to work on short notice.) Unscheduled shifts are automatically created in the scheduler with the associated job name.

Break enforcement

Require that workers clock in / clock out for their breaks. When enabled, select one of the three options:

  1. Paid breaks only

  2. Unpaid breaks only

  3. All breaks

By default, workers are allowed to clock back in early from their break. If you require workers to take their full break, enable this by toggling the Enforce complete breaks option ON. This will apply to all breaks.

Note: A manager override function exists in Shift4 Dine for each of these features, allowing managers to clock in employees at their discretion with these rules enabled.
