Tick Size and Tick Value by Product

Tick size and tick value for every Slay Markets futures product — equity index, energy, metals, interest rate, agricultural, and crypto — plus how to calculate exact dollar risk per contract.

The minimum price move for every futures product available through Slay Markets — and what each tick is worth in dollars.

A tick is the minimum price increment a futures contract can move. The tick value is how many dollars that minimum move is worth per contract. Tick value = contract multiplier × tick size. Knowing both lets you calculate your exact dollar risk per contract before placing a trade.

How do I calculate my dollar risk per contract?

Multiply your planned stop distance in ticks by the tick value, then by the number of contracts:

  • Example: 1 MNQ contract with a 10-tick stop. MNQ tick value is $0.50, so risk = 10 × $0.50 = $5.00 per contract.

  • Example: 2 ES contracts with a 4-tick stop. ES tick value is $12.50, so risk = 4 × $12.50 × 2 contracts = $100.00 total.

Interest rate futures tick size and tick value

Treasury futures use fractional tick sizes expressed as fractions of a full point (100% of par value). One full point equals $1,000 for ZB, ZN, and ZF, and $2,000 for ZT. Tick values below are per contract.

Frequently asked questions about tick size and tick value

Q: What is the dollar value of a 1-point move in ES?

A: One full point in the E-mini S&P 500 (ES) is $50.00. The tick size is 0.25 points and one tick is $12.50, so a 1-point move is 4 ticks × $12.50 = $50.00.

Q: What is the dollar value of a 100-point move in NQ?

A: One full point in NQ is $20.00, so a 100-point move is $2,000 per contract.

Q: My platform shows prices in fractions for ZB. How do I convert?

A: ZB prices are quoted in points and 32nds. “145-16” means 145 full points plus 16/32, or 145.50. Each 1/32 tick is $31.25.

Tick size is the minimum price increment and tick value is the dollar amount per contract for that move. Calculate risk as stop distance in ticks × tick value × number of contracts. For ES each tick is $12.50; for MNQ each tick is $0.50.
