The TLJ Zpad is a Z-Wave-enabled keypad that bridges the communication between your TLJ Bluetooth-enabled lock and the Z-Wave-enabled SmartRent Hub. This bridge allows you to monitor and remotely control doors of vacant homes via SmartRent Manager Web or SmartRent Manager Mobile.
If a TLJ lock and Zpad are installed in a resident’s home, the resident will be able to monitor and remotely control their door lock in the SmartRent App and the Resident Web Portal once they are moved-in. Once occupied, however, community managers and site teams will no longer be able to access or monitor the lock beyond battery levels. That said, work orders will still be automatically created by SmartRent and will generate limited-use access codes for maintenance teams and vendors to make any needed repairs, even if the home is occupied.
Mounting the Door Lock:
Before including the lock into the Z-Wave network, you’ll need to mount it to the desired door. TLJ locks come in many variations, so for the best instructions for mounting the lock to your door, please refer to the installation instructions that came with your specific model.
Here are a few key tips when installing your lock:
Once installed, actuate the lock manually to make sure it moves freely and easily
Close the door and actuate the lock manually to ensure no binding or jamming occurs with the door jamb or strike plate
Including the TLJ Zpad:
Before the TLJ Zpad can be used, you will first need to include it into the home’s Z-Wave network.
To include the Zpad, follow these steps:
Put the hub into inclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in inclusion mode, perform the following on the Zpad:
Press and hold the Set button on the back of the Zpad until it beeps twice
You should hear a third beep when you release the button
Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Press the Enter button
When buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4 light up, press button 4 (the buttons should go dark while in inclusion mode)
The device should be discovered within a minute
If the device is not discovered, try excluding the device first (see steps below), then return to Step 1
Once discovered, enter the device’s DSK Number (this will be the PIN code attached to the mounting bracket supplied with the Zpad)
Click Submit DSK
Configuring the TLJ Zpad:
Once the door Zpad is discovered, it will populate on the Hub page in SmartRent Manager. There are three additional steps to finalize the device installation process.
To configure the Zpad, follow these steps:
Configure the device
Trigger an event by manually locking and unlocking the door lock
The Zpad should have reported its state change (switching from Locked to Unlocked)
If the ZPad does not report its state change, click Configure Device in SmartRent Manager, or Search for Attributes in Alloy Install
When configured successfully, the device’s states (Locked Yes and Locked No) will appear in the Device Attributes section (Alloy Install will simply proceed to the next step)
Device Specific Settings will be set on the lock automatically during setup (these settings are set in SmartRent Manager and are applied to all locks in the community)
All previous codes will automatically be erased from the lock
Backup codes for installers, community managers, and residents will be loaded on the lock automatically
General configuration will be completed
SmartRent Manager will give you a code to test on the lock
Once input into the lock’s PIN pad, the backup code will be verified)
Name the device
Choose your desired name for the device
Click Save and Continue in SmartRent Manager, or Name Device in Alloy Install
Click Complete Installation
Excluding the Zpad:
An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. If the Zpad is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.
To exclude the TLJ Zpad, follow these steps:
Put the hub into exclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in exclusion mode, perform the following on the Zpad:
Press and hold the button on the back of the Zpad until it beeps twice
You should hear a third beep when you release the button
Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Press the Enter button
When buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4 light up, press button 4 (the buttons should go dark while in exclusion mode)
The device should be excluded within a minute
Mounting the Zpad:
Once the Zpad is included into the network, it can be mounted to the wall. Screw the metal bracket to the desired location (choose carefully as this will be permanent.) Clip the rubber gasket over the metal bracket and then clip the Zpad into the rubber gasket. Use the small bracket fixing screw to securely fasten the Zpad to the bracket.
