The Honeywell T6 Thermostat communicates with SmartRent’s internet-connected hub, allowing you to monitor and manage a home’s climate remotely via SmartRent Manager Web or SmartRent Manager Mobile. If a Honeywell T6 Thermostat is installed in a resident’s home, they will be able to monitor and manage their climate with the SmartRent App and the Resident Web Portal once they are moved-in. Once occupied, however, community managers and site teams will no longer be able to access the thermostat’s readings or settings.
NOTE: When initiating the pairing process for the Z-Wave Honeywell 700 Series T6 thermostat, it is imperative to conduct the pairing procedure while the thermostat is off the wall and powered by its three AA batteries (diagram below). This remains applicable even if a common wire is present and actively utilized. Following successful pairing, the batteries must remain within the thermostat during installation onto the wall, irrespective of the common wire's activation status.
Including (Pairing) the Thermostat:
Now that the Honeywell T6 Thermostat batteries are installed correctly, it can be included into the home’s Z-Wave network.
To include the thermostat, follow these steps:
Put the hub into inclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in inclusion mode, press the Menu button on the thermostat
Navigate to the Z-Wave Setup option and press Select
Tap Select again when the thermostat displays “Set controller to inclusion mode” message
For Honeywell T6 models with the Z-Wave 700 series radio, you may be asked to scan the QR code (or manually enter the device's PIN), which can be found on the Honeywell T6 Packaging
The QR/PIN can also be found on the back of thermostat itself
If the original packaging isn't available when installing a T6 with the Z-Wave 700 radio, it is recommended to include the Honeywell T6 using the Alloy Install app as this will allow you to scan the QR code immediately, prior to installing the thermostat face to the wall
The device should be discovered within a minute
If the device is not discovered, try excluding the device first (see steps below), then return to Step 1
Configuring the Honeywell T6 Thermostat:
Once the thermostat is discovered, it will populate on the Hub page in SmartRent Manager. There are three additional steps needed to finalize the device installation process.
To configure the thermostat, follow these steps:
Configure the device
To configure the device, you’ll first need to trigger some events
Tap the + and - buttons on the thermostat’s screen to adjust the temperature up and down
Tap the Mode button on the bottom of the screen to switch through the thermostat modes
Tap the Fan button on the bottom of the screen to switch between the fan modes
The thermostat should have reported its state changes (temperature adjustments and mode changes) completing Step 1 of the configuration automatically
If not, click Configure Device in SmartRent Manager, or Search for Attributes in Alloy Install
When configured successfully, the device’s states (Mode, Fan Mode, Cooling Setpoint, Heating Setpoint, Current Temp, and Current Humidity) will appear in the Device Attributes section (Alloy Install will simply proceed to the next step)
Current Temp and Current Humidity may take 10-15 minutes to report
Name the device
Choose your desired name for the device
Click Save and Continue in SmartRent Manager, or Name Device in Alloy Install
Click Complete Installation
Excluding the Thermostat:
An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. If the Honeywell T6 Thermostat is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.
To exclude the Honeywell T6 Thermostat, follow these steps:
Put the hub into exclusion mode (refer to our SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install articles for additional instructions)
While the hub is in exclusion mode, press the Menu button on the thermostat
Navigate to the Z-Wave Setup option and press Select
Tap Select again when the thermostat displays Exclude XX message
The device should be excluded within a minute
Mounting the Thermostat:
Now that the thermostat is included and configured, it is time to install the unit. For proper wiring and installation instructions, refer to the installation manual that came with the thermostat. Before performing any work involving heating and cooling systems, it is always recommended to consult with your local HVAC professional.
