How Do I Include a Device With SmartRent Manager Web?

To use a Z-Wave device, it must first be included in the Z-Wave network provided by the hub. This process is completed by placing the hub into inclusion mode and then performing an inclusion process on the device itself. This inclusion process pairs the device to the internet-connected hub allowing it to be monitored, managed, and automated with SmartRent.

The hub’s inclusion process can be initiated remotely through SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install. For steps on including devices in Alloy Install, refer to our How Do I Include a Device with Alloy Install? article.

Putting the Hub into Inclusion:

To put the hub into inclusion mode in SmartRent Manager Web, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to SmartRent

  2. Click on the desired Community

  3. Click Units in the side bar menu

  4. Click on the unit where the device will be located

  5. Click Hub in the left sidebar menu

  6. Click Include

  7. While the hub is in inclusion mode, perform the device’s inclusion steps (refer to our Device Inclusion page to locate inclusion steps for your specific device)

  8. The device should be discovered within a minute

    • If the device is not discovered, try excluding the device first (see steps below), then return to Step 6

Putting the Hub into Exclusion:

An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. If a device is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.

To put the hub into exclusion mode in SmartRent Manager Web, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to SmartRent

  2. Click on the desired Community
