To use a Z-Wave device, it must first be included in the Z-Wave network provided by the hub. This process is completed by placing the hub into inclusion mode and then performing an inclusion process on the device itself. This inclusion process pairs the device to the internet-connected hub, allowing it to be monitored, managed, and automated with SmartRent.
The hub’s inclusion process can be initiated remotely through SmartRent Manager Web or Alloy Install. For steps on including devices in SmartRent Manager Web, refer to our How Do I Include a Device with SmartRent Manager Web? article.
Putting the Hub into Inclusion:
To put the hub into inclusion mode in Alloy Install, follow these steps:
Log in to the Alloy Install App
Search for the desired Project
Tap on the Project
Tap on the desired Job
Tap on the proper Task
If the device you’re including has a DSK number, scan it with your phone’s camera or input it manually in the DSK Number field
Tap Include
While the hub is in inclusion mode, perform the device’s inclusion steps (refer to our Device Inclusion page to locate inclusion steps for your specific device)
The device should be discovered within a minute
Putting the Hub into Exclusion:
An exclusion is a way to reset a Z-Wave device’s settings. If a device is not discovered during the inclusion process, it may need to be excluded. This may be necessary if the device was included in a Z-Wave network previously.
To put the hub into exclusion mode in SmartRent Manager Web, follow these steps:
Log in to the Alloy Install App
Search for the desired Project
Tap on the Project
Tap on the desired Job
Tap on the proper Task
Tap Exclude
While the hub is in exclusion mode, perform the device’s inclusion steps (refer to our Device Inclusion page to locate exclusion steps for your specific device)
The device should be excluded within a minute
