In TaxWise, you can set up ERO return templates to standardize the filing process and simplify the creation of tax returns. Publishing these templates ensures that they are available for use by tax preparers and EROs in your office. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to publish ERO return templates in TaxWise:
Here's a visual navigation and configuration on Publishing ERO Return Templates through Supademo Link.
Steps to Publish ERO Return Templates in TaxWise
1. Create the Return Template
Log into TaxWise as an Administrator or user with sufficient privileges to modify templates.
Go to the Settings menu under your profile and select Return Templates.
Select Create New Template or edit an existing template. This is where you'll configure the return that you want to save as a template for future use.
You may also want to categorize or tag the template (e.g., "Individual Returns," "Business Returns," etc.) for easier future access.
Provide a clear, recognizable name for the template so that other users can easily identify it when preparing returns.
2. Save the Template
After creating the return, save the document as a template by selecting the Create Template button.
You can Delete or Edit the template as per your preference.
3. Review and Approve the Template
Once the template is created and saved, review the return template to ensure all required fields and details are correctly populated and that the e-file information is set up properly.
Ensure that you already have updated the taxpayer's PTIN or the ERO Firm name.
Ensure that any forms or worksheets that should be included for the specific type of return (e.g., Form 1040, Form 1120, etc.) are present and set up for e-filing.
If you are someone who has multiple PTIN holders, updating this would be good for you because you can have it pre-filled for them. Go to Form 8879 then replace the information with your EFIN and ERO details.
Another important template to adjust is going to be your Price sheet.
If you want to add more templates which you want to be present on every return you will make, click the + icon so you can add all the necessary forms as per your preference.
Clicking Save Changes will help you keep every changes you do in your customized template.
4. Publish the Template
Publish the template within your firm’s TaxWise system to make it accessible to other preparers and EROs. In the Template Manager or ERO Return Setup section, there will be an option to publish or share the template.
5. Set Permissions for Template Access
You may want to control which users or roles can access the templates you publish by clicking Assign. This is especially important if you have different user roles (e.g., Tax Preparer, ERO, Office Manager).
Ensure the template is accessible to the appropriate users based on their roles. You can restrict access to sensitive templates or templates for specific return types (e.g., only EROs can access business tax return templates).
Choose the Template that you want to assign and to which User you want to assign it to. Don't forget to click the Assign button below!
6. Using Published Templates
To use a published template for a new return, search for the template in the TaxWise Return Manager or Form Selector by the template’s name or category.
Select the template you want to use, and it will be loaded with all prefilled information. You can then modify and complete the return as needed, entering taxpayer-specific data or any additional forms.
7. Test the Template
After publishing the template, it’s a good practice to test it by creating a sample return using the template. Verify that:
All fields are properly populated.
E-filing details are correct.
The template works as expected in the actual filing process.
Best Practices for Publishing ERO Return Templates in TaxWise:
Consistency: Use templates to create consistency across all returns. Ensure your team uses the correct templates for different filing scenarios (e.g., individual vs. business returns).
Clear Naming: Use clear, descriptive names for templates so they can be easily identified by other users.
Regular Updates: Periodically review and update templates to reflect any changes in tax laws, IRS forms, or office procedures.
Security: Ensure templates with sensitive information are properly secured and that access is restricted to only authorized users.
By following these steps, you can successfully publish ERO return templates in TaxWise, improving workflow efficiency and ensuring consistency in how returns are processed and filed.
