To claim the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and the Credit for Other Dependents (ODC), follow these steps:

  1. Enter the dependent’s information in the designated section on the Main Info page.

  2. The software will automatically determine if the dependent qualifies for the Child Tax Credit (CTC) or Other Dependent Credit (ODC) based on their age.

  3. The software will not automatically select the Earned Income Credit (EIC). You will need to manually check the EIC box. However, the software will calculate eligibility for EIC automatically, so it’s best to always select EIC just in case.

  4. After selecting the EIC box, the Schedule EIC and Schedule EIC Worksheet will turn red if the taxpayer qualifies.

  5. On Schedule EIC, you typically only need to indicate whether the child was permanently and totally disabled during the tax year.

  6. Following that, click on “Sch EIC Wkt”.

  7. On this schedule, you’ll answer a series of questions. Typically, each answer will guide you to the next relevant question.
