Follow these steps in TaxWise to claim EIC and complete the EIC Worksheet:
Step 1: Determine Eligibility
Before entering EIC in TaxWise, ensure the taxpayer meets the eligibility criteria:
✅ Earned income from wages, self-employment, or other qualifying sources.
✅ Valid Social Security Number (SSN) for the taxpayer and qualifying children.
✅ U.S. citizen or resident alien for the entire tax year.
✅ Not filing Married Filing Separately (MFS).
✅ Investment income does not exceed the IRS limit.
Step 2: Entering Dependents on Main Info Page
Add Qualifying Children (If Any):
Enter the dependent's information in the designated section on the Main Info Page
Name
SSN
Date of Birth
Relationship to taxpayer
Residency status (must have lived with the taxpayer for over half the year)
The software will automatically determine if the dependent qualifies for the Child Tax Credit (CTC) or Other dependent Credit (ODC) based on their age.
The software will not automatically select the Earned Income Credit (EIC). You will need to manually check the EIC box. However, the software will calculate eligibility for EIC automatically, so it's best to always select EIC just in case.
