Reject Code: F5695-037
If any of the following on Form 5695 have a value greater than zero: 'InsulationOrSysHtStdPctCrAmt,' 'TotalExtrDoorsCreditAmt,' or 'ExtrWndwSkylightStdPctCrAmt,' then the fields 'HomeLocatedInUSAInd,' 'OriginalUserInd,' and 'FiveYearUseExpectationInd' must all be marked "Yes," and 'ImprvRltdToConstMainHomeInd' must be marked "No."
An individual tax return will receive this reject if improvements are indicated as both for new construction and existing construction.
To correct this reject, follow these steps from the Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040):
Select Credits
Choose Residential Energy Credits
Under Qualified Energy Efficiency Improvements Costs, you'll see four checkboxes. The first and last checkboxes are likely both checked incorrectly:
First: Qualified Improvements Installed in or on Your Main Home in the U.S.
Last: Improvements Related to the Construction of this Main Home.
If the improvements were made to an existing structure, check only the first box and uncheck the last box.
If the improvements were made to new construction, check only the last box and uncheck the first box.
Note that the second checkbox (for the taxpayer being the original user) and the third checkbox (indicating a useful life of at least 5 years) are not related to this reject, so they don't need to be changed if they are correct.
