Reject Code R0000-194 occurs when the IRS has already accepted a tax return with the same taxpayer or spouse SSN. As a result, a second original return with the same SSN cannot be filed electronically.
Common Reasons for This Rejection:
The taxpayer or spouse already e-filed their tax return for the current year.
The ERO (Electronic Return Originator) may have accidentally submitted the return twice.
The taxpayer or spouse may have been a victim of identity theft, and someone else fraudulently filed a return using their SSN.
How to Resolve This Issue:
If the taxpayer has already filed a return: No further action is needed unless a correction is required.
If the return was mistakenly submitted twice: The IRS will not accept the duplicate return. If changes are necessary, an amended return (Form 1040-X) must be filed.
If identity theft is suspected:
The taxpayer should immediately contact the IRS Identity Theft Hotline at 800-908-4490.
The IRS will provide instructions on how to proceed and what steps to take next.
In cases where an amended return is required, TaxSlayer Pro provides an Amended Return feature under Miscellaneous Forms to make necessary corrections before resubmitting.
