What is SMArtX

High-level overview of what SMArtX provides

Overview

SMArtX is a Turnkey Asset Management Platform (TAMP) that enables financial advisors to provide sophisticated portfolio management services. This guide covers the fundamental concepts you need to understand the platform.

What is SMArtX?

SMArtX is a platform that sits between your advisory firm and custodians (like Schwab, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade). It provides:

  • Portfolio construction tools

  • Rebalancing automation

  • Tax management strategies

  • Model portfolio access

  • Client reporting

Key Components

Sleeves

Sleeves are the fundamental organizational unit in SMArtX. Each sleeve represents a separate bucket of assets within a client account, each with its own target allocation and investment objective.

Targets

Targets define the desired allocation for a sleeve. They specify:

  • Which investments to hold

  • What percentage of the sleeve each investment should represent

  • Rebalancing thresholds

Rebalancer

The Rebalancer is an automation tool that monitors sleeves against their targets and generates trading recommendations when drift exceeds defined thresholds.

Models

Models are pre-built investment strategies provided by third-party managers. You can assign models to sleeves, or build custom allocations from individual securities.

Accounts

Accounts represent individual client investment accounts at custodians. SMArtX links to these accounts and executes trades through API connections.
