Introduction

  • Purpose: This article explains how to create onboarding challenges in SocialLadder and the challenges that come after onboarding.

  • Context: Onboarding challenges are the first tasks ambassadors must complete after joining your program. Use these challenges to share program guidelines and ensure ambassadors start off on the right foot. Once they complete the onboarding challenges, ambassadors are tagged as ‘Onboarded Users’ and unlock access to additional challenges or Welcome Gifts.

How to Create an Onboarding Challenge

  1. Log in to the SL Admin Portal.

  2. Click Challenges > Manage Tasks.

  3. Click + CREATE to open the challenge creation window.

  4. Select a Challenge Type that matches the task you want ambassadors to complete.

  5. Fill out the Name section:

    • What do you want to call this challenge? – Choose a name that reflects the task and motivates ambassadors to participate.

    • Who would you like to target this challenge to? – Select the Pending Users segment.

    • What category would you like to group this challenge in? – Choose a category to help organize challenges on the Ambassador Dashboard.

  6. Set the Challenge Duration:

    • Define the time frame during which the challenge will be available.

    • Set the end date far in the future to ensure new ambassadors can access and complete onboarding challenges over time.

  7. Define Challenge Options:
This section varies depending on the selected challenge type.

    • Fill in any required tracking details, such as hashtags, tags, or other elements.

  8. Add Instructions for Participants:

    • Upload Challenge Image: This image appears on the Ambassador Dashboard.

    • Call to Action Text: Provide clear instructions on what ambassadors must do to complete the challenge.

Best Practice: Use numbered steps and hyperlinks for clarity and guidance.

    • Challenge Description: This is generated automatically by SocialLadder depending on the challenge type. Itclearly explain what’s required for successful completion (e.g., upload a photo and click "Submit"; check a box and click "Submit"). Adjust the verbiage if required.

  9. Set Challenge Incentives

    1. Select a Compensation Type:

    2. Fill in the Value:

      • Setup the number of Points or the Amount of Dollars provided on challenge completion.

      • Enter the estimated value this challenge brings to your brand.

      • ROI: SocialLadder will calculate the ROI by comparing value generated vs. cost of compensation.

Note: Value and ROI are for internal reporting only and will not be shown to ambassadors.

  10. Configure Advanced Settings:

    • Track as part of a campaign? – Toggle on and enter Onboarding.

    • Mark this challenge as required? – Toggle on to add “REQUIRED:” to the challenge title.

    • Require completion of another challenge first? – Toggle off.

    • Limit the number of completions? – Toggle off.

    • Tag this challenge? – Optional. Toggle on to add tags for organizational or reporting purposes.

  11. Review all challenge details, then choose one of the following:

    • Save and Publish: Launches the challenge immediately.

    • Save as Draft: Keeps it unpublished for future edits.

    • Create a Template: Saves the challenge setup as a reusable template.

How to Create After Onboarding Challenges

After ambassadors complete the onboarding challenges, they are automatically tagged as ‘ONBOARDED_USERS’ and added to the Onboarded Users segment.

To create the challenges ambassador will see after the onboarding, create new challenges following the above instructions. Mind the differences below:

  1. Fill out the Name section:

    • On the Segments field, select Onboarded Users.

  2. On Advanced Settings:

    • On the Campaign field, you can toggle it off or add another campaign for reporting purposes.

Best Practices

  • Make easy and quick - Onboarding challenges should be quick and easy to accomplish. Create up to 5 challenges easy to moderate challenges so ambassadors can quickly get onboarded.

  • Onboarding Challenge Ideas:

    • Read the Ambassador Handbook

    • Follow Us on All Social Media

    • Introduce Yourself at the Community

    • Update your Social Media Bio

    • Subscribe to Our Newsletter

Conclusion

You can turn any challenge type into an onboarding challenge to help set ambassadors up for success. To ensure a challenge functions as an onboarding task, make sure:

  • Segment = Pending Users

  • Campaign = Onboarding

All other post-onboarding challenges must be targeted to the Onboarded Users segment.
