Troubleshooting Polar H10 Connectivity and Erratic Heart Rate Data

Updated yesterday

If your Polar H10 is not connecting or showing erratic readings inside Soma NPT, the issue is almost always related to the strap, not the app.

Most connection problems stem from one of the following:

  • Low or depleted battery

  • Other apps running during the connection process

  • The strap attempting to connect with multiple devices

  • Incorrect pairing or connection steps

  • Dirty or worn sensors or connectors

Below are step-by-step troubleshooting instructions to help you restore stable performance.

1. Check the Battery

Make sure the Polar H10’s battery is charged or replace it if needed. A weak battery often causes dropped connections or unstable readings.

2. Reset the Polar H10

If the issue persists, reset the device by removing and reinserting the battery. This often clears minor connection glitches.

3. Disconnect From Other Apps

Close any apps that might also be trying to access the heart rate strap. Swipe up on your device to fully close all unnecessary background apps before connecting Soma NPT.

4. Disconnect From Other Devices

The Polar H10 can only connect to one device at a time.

If it’s already linked to another device (like your watch or bike computer), disconnect it before connecting to Soma NPT.

5. Check Other Devices Logged Into Soma NPT

Ensure you are not logged into Soma NPT on multiple devices at once (for example, an iPad and iPhone).

Disconnect from any other device before pairing your Polar H10.

6. Verify the Connection

Make sure the Polar H10 is not connected to another nearby Bluetooth device. Reconnect directly through the Soma NPT app for a clean link.

7. Check Pairing

Confirm that your Polar H10 is correctly paired with your device. If unsure, remove (“forget”) the device from your Bluetooth settings and re-pair it through Soma NPT.

8. Wear the Strap Correctly

Proper strap placement ensures accurate readings:

  • Position the strap firmly around the chest.

  • Ensure the electrodes are flat against the skin.

  • Moisten the electrode areas slightly to improve contact.

9. Enable Bluetooth

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device before trying to connect the Polar H10 to Soma NPT.

10. Clean the Strap and Connector

After each use, rinse the strap and gently clean the connectors. Dirt or residue can interfere with electrical contact and reduce signal quality.

11. Forget and Reconnect

If none of the steps above resolve the issue, go to your device’s Bluetooth settings, forget the Polar H10, then reconnect it through the Soma NPT app.

If the problem continues, contact Soma Technologies Support for further assistance.

Tips to Eliminate Erratic Heart Rate Data

To improve accuracy and reduce data dropouts:

  • Pre-moisten the strap: Rinse it with water before each session.

  • Ensure a snug fit: Prevents movement and signal disruption.

  • Warm up for 5–10 minutes: Stabilizes heart rate before training.

  • Avoid static: Wear cotton instead of synthetic shirts, or dampen technical fabrics.

  • Stay clear of interference: Avoid high-voltage areas or 2.4 GHz devices like Wi-Fi routers and microwaves.
