How Does EDM Mode Work?

Updated over a month ago

As the athlete performs the task, Soma NPT provides real-time feedback in the top right corner of the screen, showing whether their response was correct or incorrect. At the same time, Soma NPT collects data to measure how well they recover from mistakes.

What Soma Measures:

EDM Reaction Time – The time it takes for an athlete to respond correctly after making an error.

Error Correction Strategy – Whether the athlete takes extra time after a mistake to avoid repeating it.

Progress Over Time – A shrinking gap between normal reaction time and EDM reaction time indicates faster recovery and better adaptability.

Why This Matters:

By comparing primary task reaction time and EDM reaction time, coaches can assess cognitive recovery:

  • A slower EDM reaction time suggests the athlete is being more cautious after mistakes.

  • A faster EDM reaction time indicates quick recovery and adaptability, showing they are learning to recognize and correct mistakes more efficiently.
