RVIP Troubleshooting

Updated over a week ago

The Rapid Visual Information Processing (RVIP) test is designed to measure sustained attention and information processing speed. It presents a rapid stream of numbers, and participants must respond when they detect a target sequence. The pace is extremely fast, making reaction time and sustained focus critical for high performance.

Typical Performance

The RVIP is intentionally demanding. Most people struggle to respond quickly enough, leading to much lower accuracy than expected.

Professional athletes can achieve 180–200 ms reaction times with 95%+ accuracy sustained over 10 minutes.

In the general population, accuracy is far lower. For example, the study below found participants averaged 43% accuracy on RVIP.

Why Scores May Be Lower Than Expected

Many participants believe they are performing well during the RVIP but are actually responding too slowly or missing target sequences altogether. At RVIP speeds, even a slight delay can significantly reduce accuracy.
