If you’re leaving Spain with a connecting flight in another EU country, where you validate depends on where your Tax Free purchases are packed.
Purchases in checked luggage
If your luggage is checked through from Spain to your final destination outside the EU, validate your Tax Free purchase in Spain before checking in your bags.
This is important because Customs may ask to inspect your purchases.
Purchases in hand luggage
If you’re carrying your purchases in your hand luggage, you will normally validate them at the last EU airport before you leave the EU.
For example:
Madrid → Paris → New York
If your purchases are in checked luggage → validate in Madrid.
If your purchases are in hand luggage → normally validate in Paris.
Important
Keep your passport, boarding pass, receipt and purchased goods accessible until Customs validation is complete.
