Creating Rubrics using the AI Builder

Using the AI Builder is the fastest way to create a high-quality rubric. You can describe what you want to assess or upload a rubric you already use.

Step 1: Start a New Rubric

  1. Open the Rubrics list

  2. Click Create New Rubric

Step 2: Build Your Rubric

You have two options:

Describe Your Rubric

In the AI Builder, describe what you want to assess. For best results:

  • Start with the goal of the assignment

  • Identify the evaluation criteria (rows), such as Grammar or Organization

  • Describe performance levels (columns), such as Excellent, Good, or Fair

  • Use clear, observable language so expectations are easy to understand

Upload an Existing Rubric

You can upload a rubric you already use (PDF or DOC).

  • The AI will convert it into an editable rubric

  • You can still edit or rewrite parts of it in the builder

Step 3: Finalize Settings

  • Edit the rubric name and description (optional)

  • Choose scoring direction

    • Ascending or descending

    • Scores starting from 0 or 1

  • (Optional) Ask the AI to refine the draft

    • This option appears on the left panel

Your changes are saved automatically.

Creating Rubrics Manually

You can also create your rubrics manually from scratch.

  1. Open the rubrics list and click into "Create New Rubric"

  2. Click into "Create From Scratch"

  3. Set the rubric's name and a short description

  4. Add Evaluation Criteria:

    • Enter a Criteria Title (for example: Grammar)

    • Add a Criteria Description (for example: Evaluates grammatical accuracy)

    • Set scoring levels and label each score

    • Choose whether scores start from 0 or 1 (left panel)

(Optional) You can add multiple criteria to evaluate different skills. See examples below:

Your modifications to the rubric are saved automatically, so no need to save them manually!

Using Your Rubric in an Activity

Once your rubric is ready, you can apply it to an assignment.

  1. Turn on the Automatic Grading in the assignment

  2. Under Evaluation Criteria:

    • Click the default rubric to open the Rubric Library

    • Choose from:

      • Recently Used

      • Templates

      • My Own

  3. After selecting a rubric, click Use This Rubric and choose how to apply it:

    • Apply to this card
Applies the rubric only to the selected card

    • Apply to all cards in this activity
Applies the rubric to every card in the activity

    • Set as my default rubric
Automatically uses this rubric for future activities
