Specter 101

A guide to getting started

Welcome to Specter! We've designed this page to help you get up to speed with the Specter platform.

Navigating Specter

The Specter workspace can be divided into two main areas: the sidebar and the main panel. The main panel is where your data will be displayed, the sidebar is how you navigate & use Specter.


Side Navigation Overview

The Side Navigation gives access to Specter’s core databases, signal layers, and transaction data.

Specter is organized around three primary databases: Company DB, People DB, and Investor DB. These form the foundation of company, people, and investor discovery on the platform.

Each database has a corresponding signal layer; Revenue Signals (Company DB), Talent Signals (People DB), and Investor Interest Signals (Investor DB).


Quick Search

Select Quick Search or hit CMND/CRTL+K for rapid access to Companies, People and Investors. Hover over entities for an overview popover including status, key data & links and lists, if featured.


Your Items in Specter

Directly below the Quick Search, you will find your items, which includes:

  • Searches: Create and Manage your Saved Searches

  • Lists: Create and Manage your curated Lists.

  • My CRM – View companies that exist in your connected CRM.

  • My Network – Access network-based views

Under My Network, you can choose between:

  • Companies in My Network – Explore companies connected to you and your team’s extended network.

  • People in My Network – Explore individuals within your network.


Main Panel Views: Feed & Table View

Specter gives you two ways to view and work with companies: Feed View and Table View. Each view is designed for a different workflow, allowing you to switch depending on whether you’re exploring new companies or working efficiently with data.

Feed View

Feed View displays companies in a feed-style layout, showing key information at a glance. It’s best suited for exploring and discovering new companies, helping you quickly spot interesting metrics and trends.


Table View

Table View presents companies in a spreadsheet-style layout. You can customize columns, reorder fields, select multiple companies, and take actions—making it ideal for faster, more productivity-focused workflows.


Tools

The Ask AI agent can be accessed from sidebar.

  • Ask in plain English—no filters needed. The agent parses your sentence, auto-detects stage, location, funding, and more.

  • Understands intent: It semantically combs websites and descriptions to find true matches.

  • Ranks by “Semantic Score.” Results arrive pre-sorted by how closely they fit your query.

    Landscapes allow you to turn Lists into living market maps, helping you visualize and track company signals in a structured, customizable format.

    You can access Landscapes from the sidebar.

    From there, you can browse recommended Landscapes built by the Specter team or create your own and share it with your team.


Account Menu Features

Select your account menu in the bottom left corner and you will be able to access:

  • Help Center: Full library of our guides, best practices and more.

  • Integrations: Integrate Specter seamlessly with your CRM and activate Network Tracking.

  • Specter Chrome Extension: Access to Specter from any company website or Linkedin profiles.

  • API Console: The hub for programmatic access to Specter. Gather your key & monitor credit allowance.

  • Settings: Update your account, members and workspace.

  • Invite Member: Invite additional Team Members to the platform via email.

Help Center

  • In the bottom left hand corner of the sidebar you will see 'Support' - Click on this to chat with us or search our Help Center.
