Company Signals: Growth Stages

You can use our Growth Stage filter to narrow your searches to Companies at different levels of maturity. See below for the definitions of each Growth Stage.

Note: When filtering for Bootstrapped companies in particular, you can also focus more closely on recently-founded startups without funding by going to More Filters > Overview > Founded Date and choosing only the past few years. You can also use Highlights to filter for companies with No Funding, and that will feature at different Growth Stages according to other factors, such as higher headcount, acquisitions, and organisations that have been around longer but not received funding.

Growth Stage

Criteria

Bootstrapped

All of the following must be applicable:

  • 'Last Funding Date' = NULL

  • Employee Count ≤ 50

Pre-Seed / Seed

One of the following must be applicable:

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Pre Seed’, ‘Seed’, or ‘Angel’.

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Convertible Note’, ‘Grant’, ‘Debt Financing’, ‘Initial Coin Offering’, ‘Equity Crowdfunding’, ‘Product Crowdfunding’, ‘Undisclosed’, ‘Secondary Market’, ‘Corporate Round’, or ‘Non-Equity Assistance’, ‘Series Unknown’ AND 'Total Funding Amount' is less than or equal to $10M.

  • Post Money Valuation ≤ $80m

Early Stage
(Series A/B)

One of the following must be applicable:

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Series A’, ‘Series B’

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Debt Financing’, ‘Venture Round (Unknown)’, ‘Corporate Round’, ‘Product Crowdfunding’, ‘Equity Crowdfunding’, ‘Initial Coin Offering’, ‘Convertible Note’, ‘Grant’, ‘Undisclosed’, ‘Series Unknown’, ‘Secondary Market’,‘ or ‘Non Equity Assistance’ AND 'Total Funding Amount' is between $10M (not equal) and $50M (equal).

  • $80m < Post Money Valuation ≤ $250m

  • 50 < Employee Count ≤ 100

Growth Stage
(Series C/D)

One of the following must be applicable:

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Series C’ or ‘Series D’.

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Debt Financing’, ‘Venture Round (Unknown)’, ‘Corporate Round’, ‘Product Crowdfunding’, ‘Equity Crowdfunding’, ‘Initial Coin Offering’, ‘Convertible Note’, ‘Grant’, ‘Undisclosed’, Series Unknown’, ‘Private Equity’, ‘Secondary Market’,‘ or ‘Non Equity Assistance’ AND 'Total Funding Amount' is between $50M (not equal) and $100M (equal).

  • $250m < Post Money Valuation ≤ $750m

  • 100 < Employee Count ≤ 500

  • 1 ≤ #Acquired Companies < 5

Late Stage
(Series E and beyond)

One of the following must be applicable:

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Series E’, ‘Series F’, ‘Series G’, ‘Series H’, ‘Series I’, ‘Series J’, or ‘Private Equity’.

  • 'Last Funding Type' is ‘Debt Financing’, ‘Venture Round (Unknown)’, ‘Product Crowdfunding’, ‘Equity Crowdfunding’, ‘Initial Coin Offering’, ‘Convertible Note’, ‘Secondary Market’,‘ Grant’, ‘Corporate Round’, ‘Undisclosed’, Series Unknown’, ‘Private Equity’ or ‘Non Equity Assistance’ and Total Funding Amount is above $100M (not equal).

  • Post Money Valuation > $750m

  • Employee Count > 500

  • #Acquired Companies ≥ 5

  • Founded Date ≤ 2000

Exit Stage
(M&A or IPO)

  • 'Acquisition Date' is NOT NULL, or 'Last Funding Type', ‘Post-IPO Debt’, ‘Post-IPO Equity’, or ‘Post-IPO Secondary’.

  • ‘Operating Status’ is ‘IPO’ or “Acquired’

  • IPO Details IS NOT NULL
