Updated over a week ago

Where to Find This Setting

To enable backup picks:

  1. Open the Commissioner Console

  2. Navigate to Pool Settings

  3. Select Pick and Scoring Settings

  4. Locate Collect Backup Picks

  5. Turn the option On

How Backup Picks Work

When this setting is enabled:

  • Members can enter a backup pick along with their primary selection

  • The backup pick is intended for use if the original game is cancelled

  • The backup pick is stored but not automatically applied

This gives the commissioner flexibility to handle disruptions fairly.

Important: Backup Picks Are NOT Automatic

⚠️ Backup picks will not replace cancelled picks automatically.

If a game is cancelled:

  • The pool administrator must manually apply the backup pick

  • Replacement is done through Member Pick Maintenance

  • The original pick must be updated by the commissioner

Without manual action, the backup pick will not be used.

Why Use Backup Picks?

Backup picks are helpful when:

  • Games may be postponed or cancelled

  • Travel or weather issues could affect scheduling

  • You want contingency plans in place

  • You want to avoid disputes over cancelled games

Best Practices for Commissioners

  • Inform members that backups are optional but recommended

  • Monitor game status for cancellations

  • Apply backup picks consistently across the pool

  • Communicate any changes made using backups

Summary

The Collect Backup Picks option allows members to submit an alternate pick in case their original game is cancelled. Because backup picks are not applied automatically, commissioners must manually substitute them through Member Pick Maintenance when needed.
