How Are Missed Cut Golfers Scored in Strokes-Based Contests?

If you're playing in a strokes-based golf contest and wondering how a player who missed the cut is scored, here's how it works.

The Rule

In most strokes-based contests, a golfer who misses the cut receives 8 fantasy points for each missed round -- added on top of their actual score at the time they were cut.

Example

Let's say a golfer shoots +6 after Round 2 and misses the cut. Here's how their total fantasy score is calculated:

  • Score at cut: +6

  • Round 3 (missed): +8

  • Round 4 (missed): +8

  • Total: +22

The +8 penalty applies per missed round, not as a flat penalty for the entire tournament. So a golfer cut after Round 2 receives two separate +8 penalties (one for Round 3, one for Round 4).

Why Does This Matter?

Since lower scores are better in strokes-based contests, golfers who miss the cut will significantly hurt your total. When making your picks, prioritize players who are likely to make the cut and play all four rounds.
