Overview
The tiebreaker in World Cup Survivor (Knockout Stage Only) is based on cumulative goal difference — the running total of win/loss margins across all of your picks throughout the contest. It only comes into play if two or more entries are tied at the end.
How It Works
For every pick you make in the Knockout Stage, the final score margin of that match is added to (or subtracted from) your cumulative tiebreaker score:
If your pick wins, the goal difference is added as a positive number. For example, a 3–1 win adds +2 to your score.
If your pick loses, the goal difference is added as a negative number. For example, a 4–1 loss adds −3 to your score.
Both wins and losses count toward your tiebreaker score throughout the contest — not just the final round.
Example
Round 1 pick wins 3–1 → +2 (cumulative score: +2)
Round 2 pick wins 2–0 → +2 (cumulative score: +4)
Round 3 pick loses 4–1 → −3 (cumulative score: +1)
The entrant above would have a final tiebreaker score of +1.
What About Penalty Shootouts?
Matches decided by penalty shootout are counted based on the score at the end of extra time, not the penalty result. A match that ends 1–1 after extra time before going to penalties would count as a 0 goal difference regardless of the shootout outcome.
Who Wins the Tiebreaker?
The entrant with the highest cumulative goal difference score wins the tiebreaker. The tiebreaker is only used when two or more entries are otherwise tied — it does not affect standings during normal contest play.
Is the Tiebreaker Enabled in My Contest?
The tiebreaker is an optional setting that commissioners can toggle on or off (off by default). Check your contest's settings or rules page to see if it applies to your contest. The tiebreaker is only available in the Knockout Stage Only template.
