Players and teams are ranked in completely different ways, which causes a lot of confusion. Here is the split.

PIE, Player Impact Estimate, is the number used to compare players. It estimates a player’s share of everything that happened in the games they played: scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and so on. A higher PIE means a bigger slice of the total production.

Rough reading of the numbers, matching the colour coding on the team page:

Player pages also show percentiles, which place the player against everyone else in the league on each stat. A percentile of 90 means ahead of about 90% of players.

PIE is available for any processed game. It does not need player minutes.

Team rankings use efficiency ratings in the KenPom style, built from the games SportsVisio has processed and adjusted for the strength of the opponents each team played. The columns are AdjO, AdjD, AdjT, Net Rtg, Luck, Efficiency, Form, Context, Diff, Pts/G, Streak and Record.

OWP (Opponents’ Winning Percentage) and BUCH (Buchholz) come in when teams finish level on record. Both reward a tougher schedule and decide who is seeded higher.

These are team measures only. They play no part in comparing individual players.

If two players finish on identical points, that is a genuine tie on that stat. PIE is the measure to look at for who contributed more overall, because it accounts for everything else they did.
