What is a Merge Tag?

Merge Tags are placeholders within your email templates that allow you to insert dynamic and personalized content into your messages. They are widely used to create individualized emails for each recipient, enhancing the relevance and engagement of your communications.

With SquadTrip's Scheduled Messages feature, you can use a variety of merge tags to tailor your emails for travelers and trips, such as first names, last names, package names, unique referral links, and more.

Why should I use a Merge Tag?

Using merge tags offers several advantages:

  1. Personalization: Merge tags enable you to address recipients by their first name, providing a personalized touch to your emails. Personalized content is more likely to capture your audience's attention and build a stronger connection.

  2. Efficiency: Instead of manually customizing emails for each traveler and trip, merge tags automate the process. This saves you time and ensures accuracy, especially when dealing with a large number of recipients.

  3. Relevance: By tailoring your email content using merge tags, you can make your messages more relevant to your recipients, increasing the chances of achieving your desired goals, whether it's promoting travel packages, referrals, or sharing trip details.

  4. Higher Conversions: Personalized content, achieved through merge tags, can help you create more targeted calls to action and offers, increasing the likelihood of conversions.

How do I use a Merge Tag in my email?

To use a merge tag in your email, follow these simple steps:

  1. Compose your email: Start by composing your Scheduled Message using the email editor.

  2. Insert a merge tag: To insert a merge tag, place your cursor where you want to add the personalized information. Then, type a merge tag from the available merge tags, such as {traveler.firstname}, {trip.destination}, or any other relevant merge tag.

  3. Test Email: You can preview the email to see how the merge tags will appear for each recipient by sending yourself a test email.

Example Explained:
In this example below, the email will automatically insert information based on the merge tag. We'll assume the following information to be true:

  • Traveler's first name = Megan

  • Trip destination = St. Lucia

  • Trip start date = December 1, 2023

  • Last day to book = November 15, 2023

  • Traveler's referral link = www.squadtrip.com/trip/0123/megan000

The email will read:

Hi Megan,

I'm so excited for our trip to St. Lucia on December 1, 2023.

Just a reminder, the last day to book is November 15, 2023.

If you have a friend you'd like to invite, you can use your referral link: www.squadtrip.com/trip/0123/megan000

Remember, if you try to use a merge tag that doesn't have any data associated with it for a specific traveler or trip, it won't display anything, ensuring a seamless experience for your recipients.
