Student Sets

Student Sets allow administrators to group students for efficient permission management. Unlike User Groups (which group staff members), Student Sets define collections of students that permissions will apply to.

Creating a Student Set

As a Super Admin, you can create Student Sets by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Staff page.

  2. Select an active user, and click their Permissions tab.

  3. Click Add Permissions. Click Student.

  4. From the Scope dropdown, click Specific StudentSet. A link appears at the bottom of the input box. Click couldn't find? create a studentset.

  5. Define your criteria for the student group. The Student Set will contain students who match all of the criteria you select.

  6. Click Create.

Once created, you can assign permissions to this Student Set, which will apply to all students meeting the defined criteria.

Automatic Maintenance

One key advantage of Student Sets is their self-maintaining nature:

  • New students added to the platform who meet the criteria will automatically be included in the Student Set

  • No manual maintenance is required after initial setup

  • As student information changes, their inclusion in Student Sets updates automatically

Using Student Sets with Permissions

After creating Student Sets, you can:

  1. Create admin permissions based on these sets

  2. Assign staff members (through User Groups) to have these permissions on the Student Sets

  3. Create complex permission structures based on student characteristics

This creates a powerful and flexible system for permission management that scales efficiently as your institution grows.
