When you get a copyright claim on a project that uses content from Storyblocks, there’s a few possible reasons it happened:

  • The original creator of the content sold the licensing to multiple parties, and one of those parties has registered the content to a Content ID system when they shouldn’t have

  • The original creator or company that represents them registered the content to a Content ID system when they shouldn’t have

  • A claimant incorrectly believes they are the only ones with rights to the content and have registered it with a Content ID system.

We know copyright claims are frustrating for you - they are for us too. We’ve worked hard to provide stock content that is royalty-free and appropriately licensed.

The common thread between the possible reasons you got a copyright claim is the Content ID system that exists on platforms like YouTube and Facebook. These systems aren’t smart enough to know that you have a license to use the content that’s being claimed.

As a result, these platforms rely on content creators like you to do the work of proving you have the rights to use the content, instead of asking the claimant to prove they own the exclusive right to the content.

It’s not an ideal system. Platforms like YouTube have consistently been getting calls to improve their Content ID practices.

But until platforms like YouTube or Facebook adjust their Content ID systems, we’re here to help. You can follow our steps for resolving YouTube claims or resolving Facebook claims in the linked articles.
