What are the S, E, and C drives for?

In this article, we'll explain the different drives that come with a Suite Workstation.

Updated over 2 years ago

Suite Workstations come with three drives: Z: Suite Storage, C: Local, and E: Temporary. Each drive has a different purpose.

What is the Z: Suite Drive?

The Z: drive is the Suite Storage drive. This is your redundant, safe, cloud-based NAS. Your raw media files and project files should be stored on the Z: drive. For all of your projects, you'll want to edit files directly from the Z: drive.

You can also connect to this NAS from your local machine to upload data to Suite. When you upload media from your local machine to Suite Storage, those files will appear on the Z: drive once the upload is complete. To upload footage, you'll need to install Suite Storage.

⚠️ All workstations in your Suite account share the same Suite Storage. Think of the cloud-based NAS like an on-prem NAS; changes to files on one workstation will be reflected on all workstations.

πŸ’‘ A snapshot of your Suite Storage is created once every 24 hours for the past 7 days, should you need to recover a lost file.

What is the C: Local Drive?

The C drive is your workstation's main boot volume. It contains all required system files and application files, such as the Adobe Creative Cloud apps. If you install additional software on your workstation, the applications should be installed on the C drive.

By default, the C drive is 85GB in size. We recommend keeping at least 20% of the drive's disk space free for optimal performance. If you need to increase the size of a workstation's C drive, please contact us.

What is the E: Temporary Drive?

The E drive is your workstation's temporary drive. For applications that require a cache folder, place the cache here. This will optimize the performance of both the C and Z drives.

πŸ›‘ The E: Temporary drive gets wiped every time a workstation is stopped. Do not store any files you need permanently on the E drive.
