What is DCC?

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a standardized payment service offered by card networks like Visa, Mastercard. It allows an international customers, for example, someone visiting France, to choose to pay in their home currency (e.g., USD) instead of the local currency (EUR) at the time of payment with the payment terminal.

At sunday, DCC is offered in partnership with Planet, a global payments provider.

Why activate DCC?

DCC provides benefits for both your customers and your business:

For your customers (Guest Experience):

  • Peace of mind: Guest see the exact amount that will be charged to their account - no surprises later.

  • Transparency: It eliminates the uncertainty of bank-applied exchange rates and hidden foreign transaction fees.

For your business (Additional Revenue):

  • No added costs: With sunday, there are no additional fees for you on DCC transactions.

  • Premium Experience: You offer a more personalized, convenient payment option for international guests.

How does it work on the payment terminal?

The process is fully automated and built into the sunday application on your payment terminal:

1. Card insertion: The customer inserts their card into the terminal as they normally would.

2. Card detection: The system immediately detects if the card is foreign (outside the Eurozone).

Note: DCC is available for Visa and Mastercard only. American Express and Cartes Bancaires (CB) cards are not eligible and will be processed in Euros without a currency selection option.

3. Currency selection: The customer is prompted to choose between:

  • Paying in Euros (EUR)

  • Paying in their home currency (e.g., USD, GBP), with the exchange rate and final amount clearly displayed

4. Payment Completion: The transaction is processed in the selected currency.

Financial Tracking & Accounting

Even when customers pay in a foreign currency, your accounting remains simple:

  • Transaction processing: sunday and your POS system record all transactions in Euros. Currency conversion is handled by Planet.

  • Payouts: Funds are transferred to your bank account daily (at T+3), net of fees.

  • Reporting: Between the 5th and 10th of each month, you receive two documents from Planet Payments:

    • Statement: A detailed breakdown of all transactions.
