Trials at Sutherland Sharks FC — JDL & Youth Programs

Updated over a week ago

We know families are eager to understand how trials work at the Sharks, especially for our Junior Development League (JDL, U9–U12) and Youth squads (U13–U18). Here’s everything you need to know.

When are trials held?

Trials are held towards the end of each calendar year (usually September–October). These sessions are your child’s opportunity to showcase their skills in front of Sharks coaches and potentially earn a place in one of our squads for the following season.

How do I register?

To be considered, players must complete the official Expression of Interest (EOI) form when it becomes available. Once you’ve submitted the form, your details are on our list, and we will contact you directly as soon as trial dates, venues, and times are confirmed. Trial information is also published on our website and shared via social media.

👉 You won’t miss out if you’ve completed the EOI. There’s no need to email or call the club to promote your child — the EOI process guarantees you’ll be notified.

Residency requirements

  • JDL (U9–U12): Football NSW requires that players reside in the Sutherland Shire as part of the in-area policy.

  • Youth (U13–U18): There is no residency rule, but competition for places is very high.

What happens after trials?

  • Successful players will receive a formal offer from the club.

  • Unsuccessful players are encouraged to continue their football journey through our Skills Academy or Sharks Development Squad (SDS) programs, which provide excellent pathways for future opportunities.

Can’t attend the trial dates?

If your child is injured or unavailable during the published trial period, you can note this on the registration form or contact us. We’ll work with you on the best way forward.
