How to set up your card reader

A few steps to set up or troubleshoot your card reader.

Updated over 11 months ago

Install the battery

Remove the back cover to set up your card reader by lifting the indentation at the bottom left corner. Insert the battery by sliding it into the exposed slot with the gold connectors at the top aligned.

Make sure to insert the battery in the correct orientation to avoid damage to the device.

Charge the reader, then power it on

To charge the reader, insert the cable included in the box into the port marked with a lightning bolt symbol. To turn on the device, press and hold the power button located on the right side until the display activates.

We recommend charging the device for about 4 hours before using it for the first time.

Software updates

Every now and then, the reader will occasionally download software updates, this is quite normal as it helps the reader remain up to date with the latest security protections in place.

For this reason, we do recommend you leave the reader plugged in and turned on, even when it's not in use. This will allow it to automatically download updates in the background without disrupting your day.

Connect to the WiFi

Once the device powers up, you'll be prompted to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

Make sure to connect the reader to the same network used by your computer.

It's important that the card reader and the computer you will operate it from share the same network. If your computer connects to the internet via an Ethernet cable, make sure your reader connects to the same WiFi router that is connected to your computer.

Choose language and country

Next, you'll be prompted to choose your language and country.

Pairing your reader with your Tabeo account

Once you have selected your country, you will be asked to register the reader, and a pairing code will be displayed on the screen.

You can now log into your Tabeo account and navigate to your Settings tab, where you'll be able to register your reader.

Just fill in the three-word code displayed on the reader's screen and give it a name that your team can easily recognise (e.g. "Reception"), hit "Confirm" and that's it!

Your reader should be ready for use in a few seconds.

If your card reader is not connecting, please see further instructions here
