Opting Out of Your QSEHRA benefits: A Step-by-Step Guide

Please note: If you waive coverage and the QSEHRA is considered affordable, you may not claim the premium tax credit for yourself or any family members. If you do accept tax credits with an affordable HRA offering, you may owe Tax penalties to the IRS.

Do You Have Non-MEC Health Insurance?

If your current health insurance does not qualify as Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC), or if you're not interested in purchasing coverage at this time, you may waive your coverage through the platform. That said, if you'd like help exploring your options first, our team is here to answer questions and assist you every step of the way!

How to Waive Coverage:

  • First, log in to your Take Command Health member portal.

  • During the onboarding or re-enrollment flow, navigate to the second step on the "Reimbursement Amount" page.

  • Click the option for not having a QLE (if applicable) and continue with "waive HRA for the year."

OR

The option will highlight in a green border and allow you to select the button below to continue.

  • Another box will confirm that you would like to Waive just to be sure, but please continue and you will have successfully Opted Out.

Changing Your Mind Mid-Year:

  • If you decide mid-year that you do want to participate (for example, if your spouse loses their job and you no longer have insurance), it’s not too late! As long as you have a qualifying life event.
