Overview of UTM tracking:

UTM tracking is a method of tracking online marketing campaigns by attaching UTM parameters to links used in the campaign. These parameters allow you to track your campaigns across multiple platforms and analyze their performance.

It's used to tie specific campaigns to specific website visits or product pages or landing pages, which allows you to see which marketing efforts are working and which ones aren't.

UTM parameters can be used to track your campaigns by linking the parameters behind a CTA. If someone clicks on the link, you can track how each click affects traffic and conversions on Google Analytics.

A UTM parameter is a tag that you add to links in your marketing emails that inform Google Analytics which campaign they came from. The most common UTM parameters are:

1. utm_source - this informs Google Analytics where the link came from, whether it was a paid ad or social media post, or an email campaign

2. utm_medium - this informs Google Analytics what kind of traffic the link sent (email, social media post, etc)

3. utm_campaign - this informs Google Analytics what campaign name/ID was used when sending out the email

4. utm_content - this informs Google Analytics what was included in the link itself (the subject line, body text, etc)

Example: http://www.website.com?utm_source=email&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=TestCampaign

1. Create an email campaign in BayEngage.

šŸ“šRecommended Read: If you are not sure how to create an email campaign, read this article on ā€œHow To Create An Email Campaignā€.

2. Below the ā€œEmail contentā€ in the campaign creation, you can see ā€œUTM tracking(optional)ā€

3. Click on the ā€˜UTM tracking(optional)ā€™. There will be some parameters for your UTM links (source, medium & campaign). If the value for the parameter already exists, you can select it from the dropdown. Otherwise, if it is a new value, you have to type the new value and click on 'Create option'.

4. After customizing your UTM parameters, click save and schedule your campaign as usual.

5. Also, you can set a default setting for UTM tracking parameters for all your email campaigns. Click on the ā€œsettingsā€ on the left bottom & click on the ā€œUTM trackingā€ option.

6. Then customize your ā€œUTM valuesā€ according to your need and click ā€œSaveā€. These UTM values will be a default one for all your email campaigns if you don't change it for every individual campaign.
