Product Recommendation: A Detailed Rundown

A product recommendation widget can be a value addition to an email, providing personalized suggestions to customers based on their preferences, behavior, or other relevant data. We offer three types of product recommendation blocks, which are outlined below:

  1. Most viewed products

  2. Recently added products

  3. Most purchased products

Why do we need to add product recommendations to email templates?

The product recommendation features make your email campaigns work even harder. Using personalized suggestions, customers will always find just what they came in for. Here are some reasons to use it in your emails:

  • Enhances user experience

  • Increase sales and conversions

  • Make shopping more accessible and faster.

  • Use targeted suggestions to increase cross-selling and upselling.

  • Build trust and loyalty.

How to configure the product recommendations?

Before setting up product recommendations, configuring the product recommendation widget via settings is essential for effective customization and relevant results.

Note šŸ’”: The ā€œMost Viewed Productsā€ recommendation is available only when page tracking is enabled on your website.

To configure the most viewed product recommendations:

Step 1: Enter the correct credentials and log in to the BayEngage app

Step 2: Click the "Settings" icon on the bottom left corner.

Step 3: In the "Settings" menu, Click on "Product Recommendations".

Step 4: Under "Recommendation Settings," choose between "Most Viewed" and "Purchased" and set the time frame accordingly.

Note šŸ’”:

  • The new time range data is refreshed every 24 hours. If we change it manually, it reflects instantaneously.

  • Configure most viewed/purchased based on specific timelines, offering 4 options to choose how we want the most viewed/purchased for preferences.

Configure web page tracking for product recommendations:

  1. Click on the "Settings" icon in the bottom left corner.

  2. In the "Settings" menu, Navigate to the ā€œToolsā€ sections. Click on "Add-ons" to enable addon features

  3. From the ā€œAddonsā€ section, click the toggle button to enable or disable the features for page tracking to monitor browse abandonment automation.

TipsšŸ’”:

Enabling this option will track and sync site usersā€™ activity to the Bayengage application.

Disabling this option will not track and sync site usersā€™ activity to the Bayengage application.

There are two ways of implementing product recommendations in emails:

  1. Dynamic Block

  2. Filter (Static)

Dynamic Block:

You can incorporate your recently added products, most viewed items, and most purchased products into your campaigns and automation using the dynamic product recommendation block.

Note šŸ’”: The contents of the recommendation block are refreshed every 24 hours.

How it works:

The dynamic block will include the products in the template before the email is sent to your customers. Further, you can preview or send the test email to review the content of the recommendation block before sending emails to your customers.

Advantage:

  • Automated product recommendations are dynamically updated. This would be useful for automation flows, which we don't need to revisit once the automation is set up.

Disadvantage:

  • You cannot add static products to the dynamic product recommendation widget.

2. Product Recommendation Through Filter:

Product recommendations are available as part of the product widgets(new and legacy) under content options.

Advantage:

  • It allows you to choose, visualize, or plan the product.

Disadvantage:

  • The latest recommendation-type data might not be displayed to the customers.

How to configure the product recommendation through the dynamic block?

Step 1: Go to the ā€œBayEngageā€ app, click on the ā€œEmail Templatesā€ option from the left-hand side menu, and select the template you want by clicking on the option ā€˜Choose this templateā€™. The template will open in the template editor.

Step 2: Select the ā€œBlocksā€ option on the right side and scroll down to find Recently added, Most Purchased, and Most viewed product blocks - allowing you to manage and showcase products in an email template.

Step 3: Drag and Drop the relevant block into an email template.

Note šŸ’”:

The block will be hidden if no or complete values are available for the recommendation type. We can show up to 3 products in a row, or you can choose to show 1 or 2 products in a row.

Prerequisites to keep in mind for dynamic Blocks:

  • Only one block per recommendation type can be added to the template.

  • Any changes in values will be immediately reflected in the blocks.

  • Product recommendation data updates every 24 hours.

  • Avoid modifying tags to ensure proper product replacement.

  • Customize styling and elements as per requirement.
