Available Plans
Teachable has four plan tiers available for self-service purchase, upgrade, or downgrade (Starter, Builder, Growth, and Advanced). To learn what each plan includes, please refer to our our pricing page.
Should you need additional features or usage beyond what's allotted on our self-service plans, contact our sales team to learn about custom plan options.
Change Your Plan
There are three types of plan changes: upgrades, downgrades, and switches to the annual version of our current plan. To perform a plan change, follow the steps below:
1. Within your admin, go to Settings > Plan.
2. Select the change you would like to make. You may toggle between Monthly and Annual plans to view all choices.
3. Next, if you're performing an upgrade or a switch to annual, use the checkout page to complete your upgrade or annual plan purchase.
Tip: When you upgrade or switch to annual, the remaining time on your current plan is automatically applied as a prorated credit toward your purchase and your new plan will be active immediately.
How Downgrades Work
Downgrades work differently than upgrades. Instead of immediately taking effect, downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. This means that when you downgrade to a lower plan tier or switch from annual to monthly, the change takes effect when your next subscription renewal occurs.
When a downgrade is scheduled to take effect on your school plan, a banner appears at the top of your admin to notify you of the date the downgrade will take effect.
When a downgrade takes effect, you will lose access to any features that were solely available on your higher tier plan. When downgrading, please be aware of product publishing limits and other features that vary by plan.
Should you wish to end your Teachable plan subscription entirely, rather than downgrade, you can cancel your plan.
Managing Products When Downgrading
You don't need to delete any of your products to downgrade to a plan with lower product limits. Instead, you can unpublish products until your total published product count meets the requirements of your new plan. This preserves your content and product settings for future use. In contrast, deleting products is an irreversible action that cannot be undone in the future.
Should your school be over the product limit of your new plan when a downgrade takes effect, Teachable's system will automatically unpublish products until your school meets the limit. Automatic unpublishing is based on each product's last published date, with your most recently published products being unpublished first.
Managing Students When Downgrading
Downgrades must comply with student limits for each plan. If your school is over the student limit for a lower tier plan, you won't be able to downgrade your plan unless you reduce your student count. Learn more about managing students within your school.
Cancel your plan
If you decide to cancel your paid school plan, your school will be taken offline. At that time, you will have limited access to your school admin and your students will no longer be able to access any products they’ve purchased. Please note that only the Primary Owner of a school can cancel the school plan. Administrative access will be highly restricted after cancelation.
If you need temporary admin access after cancellation, consider upgrading your plan to regain full access or contact customer support for promotional coupons that might provide limited-time access to the admin tools.
Reactivate Your Plan
Reactivating your paid school plan ensures your school operations continue without disruption. You can do this at any time:
If the cancellation is scheduled but not yet in effect: When you log in to your school admin, you’ll see a banner at the top indicating the scheduled end date of your plan. Click the Resume subscription link in that banner to keep your current plan active.
If the cancellation has already taken effect: From your Settings > Billing page, select your desired plan to restore access to paid plan features. For cases of admin access loss, consider upgrading your account to restore features like data exporting and content management. You may also contact support to inquire about time-limited coupons.
Regain Admin Access After Plan Issues
If you lose admin access due to plan changes or expiration, here are ways to restore it:
Step 1: Upgrade Temporarily to Restore Access
Upgrading to a paid plan immediately restores your admin features, including tools for managing content and exporting school data.
Step 2: Use Time-Limited Coupons
Contact support to check if a coupon is available for temporary access to a higher-tier plan, allowing tasks such as data export or user management.
