Cancel Your Paid School Plan

How to cancel your school plan and what happens when you cancel.

Updated over a week ago

Before you cancel

If you decide to cancel your paid school plan, your school will eventually be taken offline. When this happens, you will have limited access to your school admin and students will no longer be able to access your content.

Please note that only the Primary Owner of a school can cancel the school plan.

IMPORTANT: Before canceling your plan, you should complete the following steps to avoid disruption:

  • Download any content you don’t have stored elsewhere

  • Review and manage any active student subscriptions from the Sales page

  • Export student list and emails from the Users page

  • Export sales and student records for business needs

  • Delete any custom domains and make your Teachable subdomain primary (see the Custom Domains article for steps)

Cancel your school plan

To cancel a school plan:

  1. Within your school admin, go to Settings > Billing.

  2. In the top right corner of the Billing page, select Manage Plan, then select Cancel Plan.

  3. You will be walked through a series of steps to ensure you understand the impact of canceling your school plan subscription.

  4. Follow the prompts to confirm your cancellation.

Your cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. Until then, your paid features remain active and the cancellation can be reversed. Any pending payouts will continue to be processed to ensure you receive all owed payments.

If you don’t see a Cancel Plan button, you may have already canceled. In that case, you’ll see a banner showing the date your plan will end, along with an option to resume your subscription.

If you prefer to downgrade to a lower-tier plan instead, you can do so from Settings > Plan by selecting the plan you wish to downgrade to from your current plan.

What happens to your access after you cancel

Schools with no students or no active subscriptions

If your school has no students, or has students but no active subscriptions:

  • Your school will be taken offline after your plan ends

  • You will have limited admin access and won’t be able to add, edit, or publish products

  • Students will lose access to content hosted in your school

Schools with active student subscriptions

If your school has enrolled students with active subscriptions (subscriptions, memberships, or payment plans):

  • You’ll be prompted to review and manage subscriptions before confirming cancellation

  • Canceling your plan does not immediately stop student subscriptions

  • Student subscriptions may continue for up to 30 days after your plan ends, and students may still be charged

  • Students keep access through the end of their paid billing periods after their last successful charge

To stop student billing sooner, you must manually cancel subscriptions from the Sales page.

While your school is offline, your content and school settings remain intact, allowing you to re-upgrade your plan without data loss.

If you re-upgrade to a paid plan, paid features will be restored. Any student subscriptions that were canceled must be re-purchased to resume payments.

Frequently asked questions

I canceled my plan. How do I undo or reverse the cancellation?

If you’ve canceled a paid school plan, you can reactivate it at any time.

  • If the cancellation is scheduled but not yet in effect: A banner will display at the top of your admin indicating the date your cancellation will take effect. Select the Resume subscription link in that banner to remove the scheduled cancellation and keep your current plan active.

  • If the cancellation has already taken effect: From your Settings > Billing page, select your desired paid plan to restore access to paid plan features.

Why am I still being billed after cancelling?

There are a few reasons why you might still be getting billed after you tried canceling your account. It’s possible that a school has a Teachable subdomain that wasn’t removed, or that you have a duplicate account or multiple schools. To fully stop billing notifications, ensure that your school is entirely deleted, your user account is removed if necessary, and all active subscriptions within the school have been canceled before deletion.

First, if you have any custom domains with Teachable, you must delete them before you can finalize your cancellation. Learn more about deleting custom domains.

Once these steps are done, you can cancel your plan by going to the admin, then Settings > Billing and choosing Cancel Plan under your current plan. Repeat these steps for any additional accounts under other email addresses you may have.

If you are unable to locate the account being charged, please log in and contact Teachable Support. When reaching out, please provide the following information:

  • Date of charge

  • Amount of charge

  • Last 4 digits of card being charged

I cancelled my plan, but my students are still being charged

Canceling your school plan does not automatically cancel active student subscriptions. Student subscriptions follow their own billing cycles and continue temporarily for 30 days after your plan ends.

To stop student charges sooner, you must manually cancel active subscriptions from the Sales page.
