How to Enable Storage Permission (and Why It’s Required)

Storage Permission Explained: Why It’s Needed and How to Enable It on Your Device

Updated this week

This help article explains how to give storage permission AND why TeachKloud requires it.

TeachKloud is asking for storage permission / I can’t sign documents

TeachKloud needs storage permission to complete actions like signing documents or downloading and uploading images/videos. If this permission was denied when installing the app, your device will block these features — which is why pressing “Done” after signing may do nothing. To fix this, enable storage permission in your device settings. Once permission is granted, document signing and media uploads/downloads will work normally.

How do I give Storage Permission?

Option 1: Device Settings > TeachKloud (parents app or childcare app)

  1. Go to the settings of your device and find the TeachKloud app.

  2. Select the app

  3. Give permissions for photos and camera. Photos should be set to allow access to ALL photos. Please also give access to location (if applicable). Tip: Turn on notifications, if you’d like to receive notifications.

Option 2: Re-Install and Allow Permission Requests

Re-install the app, ensuring that you allow ALL permission requests when prompted. If you only allow access to “selected” photos for example, you won’t be able to sign documents. Please ensure you allow access to “all” photos and any other permission requests.

Why does TeachKloud need access to my device’s storage?

TeachKloud cannot read, save or upload any files on your device, unless you explicitly grant storage permission. This permission is required because several core TeachKloud features depend on access to your device’s storage, including:

  • Uploading images or videos from your device into areas such as learning stories, observations, or accident forms

  • Downloading images or documents from TeachKloud into your device’s gallery or file folders

  • Attaching files when communicating with your childcare service

  • Signing documents (e.g., accident forms, learning stories), which requires your device to temporarily save the signed file before uploading

  • Previewing files such as PDFs or images shared by your childcare provider

Without storage permission, your device prevents TeachKloud from performing these actions even if you are logged into the app.
